I'll stick my nose into this problem because it may be easy to solve.
The problem of printing (which I have had off and on for about a year) deals
with the various versions of Java and some changes that were made which
caused the printing problems and someday maybe things will get straightened
out.
So the answer to the printing problem (on Linux) is to:
1) Find a version of java that works.
2) Stick with that version until something better comes along.
The problem with doing major upgrades is that it probably wipes out your JRE
pointer and causes it to point to either the JRE that comes with MD or to
some other version.
I have always had good luck with the Blackdown JRE version j2rel1.4 (as
kubuntu names it)
The pointer I am currently using to use this version looks like:
jre -> /usr/lib/j2se/1.4/jre/
Now it is a simple matter to make that pointer.... one simple command done
in the MD directory where it will use that jre pointer.
Can you find a version of the above Blackdown jre for Mepis?
Changing to that has helped other users but I will certainly agree that
printing has become a big mess for MD.
