There have been some other posts about it on the mailing list.

Normally the Moneydance Updater will just download the updated
moneydance.jar file for you and put it into place.  However, the 617
update requires updating some other components, so you need to download
a new complete package.

Unfortunately the Updater tries to send you to Java's internal web
browser, which does not have the power to render the page correctly.  To
update manually, you should just visit the update page:

    http://moneydance.com/update

using a real web browser.  :)
