[moneydance] batch-recording downloaded transactions

Greetings to all,
 
It so happened that I have a large number of downloaded transactions from my bank's checking account none of which are actually recorded into the checking acct register. I am planning to set aside a chunk of time sometime in the future to go through all of them and assign them to proper categories. In the meantime, I wonder if there is a way to search through them for a specific info, e.g. find all transaction with a name of a specific gas station. Probably, the way to do it would be to batch-record them all as transactions between the checking acct and a single temporary category. This will allow me to do the usual search. I just don't know how to record them all into the same category. Any suggestions?
