I've got an iPod touch running the 2.0 firmware and already have a
developer certificate from Apple for writing iPhone/iPod apps. I see
three approaches to working with Moneydance on the iPhone:
1) xpenser + jott -> Moneydance extension. This allows a simple way
to record an expense via xpenser.com which can interact with jott.com,
twitter.com, SMS, email and IM. The nice part about this is that it
works with the 98% of people who don't (yet) have iPhones. See this
thread for more info: http://moneydance.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1208303387
2) sync with a third party iPhone app. The beta palmsync extension
to Moneydance used to work with the SplashMoney Palm app, but I was
never completely happy with the result. SplashMoney is now available
as an iPhone app, but I think the synchronization works in a different
way.
3) write a custom iPhone app. Given what is on the iPhone App Store
now I think I could come up with something pretty competitive. The
trick would be synchronizing it with Moneydance, which would have to
be done over the local network or a secure "drop box" type of system
on moneydance.com.
I think that #3 is the most interesting option from a development
point of view, but #1 is the most widely applicable and therefore more
appealing from a business sense.
Thanks,
Sean
