Fuzzy,

Actually, I would say there is a third school of thought.

3. I enter transactions as I incur them. This includes checking, savings, credit cards and cash. About once a week I download from banks and reconcile my bank accounts. For credit cards, I download and reconcile once a month. And I reconcile my cash about once a month as well. I've set up a "bank" account called Cash and recocile uncategorized expenses at the end of the month to a Miscellaneous expense account.

I love Moneydance. And thanks for the calendar in the date field. I kept having to look at the reminders calendar when I wanted to enter a future transaction and needed to know the date of the week.

This, by the way, is my "budgeting" method. I have reminders for ALL recurring transactions set up to enter automatically 90 days ahead. I've never been able to understand the budgeting module in MD, and Quicken wasn't any easier. This works for me.

MD Rocks! :)
