[moneydance] Spliting transactions

Hi - I need some help and can't get an answer from the forum folks.  I am running the trial download version of Moneydance.  I imported my recent transactions from my bank and credit card.  The actual download itself went well.  However, when I tried to split a few transactions (paycheck, for example), I would click on the split button at the top of the box, there would be no place to put the split amounts.  There are 3 narrow columns that hold about 2 characters.  

Is this a problem with the trial version?  Should I delete the accounts and start over with a new download?  What should I do to split transactions.
