[moneydance] MD freezes then unfreezes

ive tried to post this to "Get Satisfaction", where there was a very  
similar posting by someone else.... but no solutions suggested have  
worked so far.

when i use MD, it regularly freezes every 5-10 min for about 20-30  
seconds.  when it unfreezes, it just works as normal and part of  text  
i wrote during the freeze piles through.  the keystrokes may not be  
complete upon unfreezing.... so it is a problem and annoyance.  other  
applications during this freeze (eg email, Word, etc) are all  
responding normally; its not the Mac.

funny thing, it happens on both the macs that i use.  one possible  
complication is that i save my MD file on .mac (webdav server).

this freezing has been happening sporadically over the years, but  
seems worse now as the file size swells (though its really only  
2.9Mb).  a freeze is sure to happen everytime i use MD.  its very  
troublesome when entering a long series of transactions and you  
realize that the last few were during a freeze  (not all the key  
strokes may come through at the end).  i have checked all my  
transactions so that dates are all within normal bounds (i.e. i dont  
have transactions mistakenly dated 2099)

MD version currently is 2008(r3) 629 and Java Version: 1.5.0_16
both macs are 10.5.6 and higher spec machines w/ plenty of RAM.
i connect to .mac (Webdav server) on high speed broadband.  upload  
speed = 42kbps.  download 5mbps
"Perform auto-save" is OFF.  (yeah this was a primary suspect, but  
unfortunately it makes no difference on the freezes)
"Make daily backup" is checked at set to 2 backups.  i backup to a  
"separate backup folder" on the local drive
"save on every quit" is checked
	

does anyone have this problem?
does anyone have a solution (other than archiving) which i am not  
convinced is reversible.
