[moneydance] How do I enter an investment transaction in a foreign currency?

I have created an investment account with "Currency Type" of "Canadian
Dollar".

How do I enter a purchase of a foreign-currency security?

For example, my trading account at Qtrade lets me purchase both CDN$
and US$ equities. The US$ equity transactions are displayed at Qtrade
entirely in US$.

I have modified the security in question within MoneyDance to use US$,
however when I try to enter a transaction for that security within the
CDN$ investment account, I can't enter it in US$. And when I manually
convert it to CDN$ by calculating the exchange rate, the history of
the US$ security is screwed up.

Do I have to set the currency of the security to CDN$ and manually
calculate the exchange rate for each transaction? I'd rather have
MoneyDance do the conversion for me.

Does any of this make any sense? :-)
