Steve,
Brokerage accounts in MD do NOT use an associated cash account as in MS Money. They use a running balance. You shouldn't have to export / import the associated cash accounts .qif files from MS Money.
Importing from MS Money is a two stage process. First, one at a time, import the MS Money .qif file to the newly created matching account in MD, BUT select the From Another Program radio button AND the Import Account Info Only check box. Continue this process until you import all of the .qif files from MS Money. Then repeat the process making absolutely sure that you import the .qif files from MS Money into the proper account in MD, select the From Another Program radio button, BUT this time uncheck the Import Account Info Only check box.
After the import process is complete. From the Menu bar, click on Extentions > Add... > chose the From the Internet radio button and from the resulting form chose the Stock quote syncronizer. This will allow you to update your stock quotes.
Downloading info from your brokerage accounts we can cover later if you encounter problems with that.
Speaking of stock quotes. MS Money does NOT export stock splits. They will have to be reapplied in MD. Look in the update prices manually list in MS Money to find the splits. You also have to input the ticker symbols of all of your equities into MD. From your brokerage account in MD select the Security Detail button > History > Edit, in the resulting Edit Security form, enter the proper ticker symbol.
I first made the mistake of not doing the two stage import process and my MD file was completely screwed up. Granted MD does NOT hold your hand as tightly as MS Money does and there is definately a learning curve, but as you use the program you'll find yourself liking it more and more.
Hope this helps. Don't give up.
