I was wrong.  I just tried entering a test transaction numbered 500, 
then entering another using <Next Check#> in the Check# drop down list, 
and it appeared as 501.  This is with build 631 and Java Version: 
1.6.0_12 Java Vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc. in Windows. 
Note that it does not work until a number has previously been saved, 
then it will work on following transactions.
